On June 3rd, 2020, Region of Crete organized an info day/workshop for TOUREST. The participants had the opportunity to learn about the aims, goals and the results of the project.
During the info day session, the self-assessment online digital tool was presented and discussed in detail. This tool was designed in the frame of TOUREST, for touristic coastal regions, for SMEs and Public Authorities alike, to self-assess their water management efforts.
A number of stakeholders attended the event and made interesting presentations and/or statements, expressing their different standpoints. The attendees were mostly representatives from the Hoteliers’ Association of Rethymno, the Union of Tourist Settlements of Rethymno, the Hoteliers’ Association of Chania, Decentralized Administration of Crete, Region of Crete, Municipality of Rethymno, Hellenic Survey of Geology & Mineral Exploration, Organization for the Development of Crete S.A..
In the second session the Action Plan for Region of Crete was presented. The Actions that came out were discussed in a fruitful workshop. The most remarkable issues that arose and were discussed during the workshop were: a) the importance of the public awareness regarding water saving methods, b) the need for separation of potable water from irrigation water c) the financial incentives for the SMEs in order to adopt water saving methods.
